Auntie Twiddle is named after my mother (she used to twiddle a piece of material). Sometimes she twiddles with her shawl between her paws (Just like my mum would do).
She was born in the same sett (under the shed) where Itchy was born. Most of her relations have now passed away or moved elsewhere, but she is determined that the sett should remain in the family name of Scratchet.
Always feeling the cold, Auntie Twiddle wears a shawl around her shoulders, she also wears glasses as she needs them to see clearly when she is reading, which is her favourite pastime. A long time ago she disappeared while out looking for juicy berries in Badger Wood.
How did she disappear?
Later on and while searching for something to save Badger Wood, Itchy discovers to his surprise, Auntie Twiddle living happily in another sett with a lot of friendly badgers who help each other out with the chores.
It turns out that she had been caught in a trap and was frightened for her life but was rescued by some kind Upples who relocated her to Badgerland, where she now lives.
Auntie Twiddle is very clever and wise, she seems to know everything, and it is her who informs Itchy about Rainbows and the legend of the pot of gold. She is also responsible for sending Itchy the map featured in (Book 4), which is the start of Itchy’s travels. Itchy’s Auntie has great faith in his ability to save their woodland home and to help start his journey, organises other wildlife to help in Itchy’s great adventures!
